Dr. Packs report of operation on Sam for cancer on Jan 19, 1943
To: Dr. Charles L. Dichter, dated Jan. 25, 1943
Just a brief note to tell you of the pathology report, in the case of yoru brother, Mr. Samuel S. Dichter, who is in Memorial Hospital now, under my care.
As you know, I performed an extremely radical groin dissection, in which I removed not only the inguinal and femoral lymph nodes, but the external iliac lymph noes and the obscuration lympth nodes as well.
This was accomplished by severing the inguinal ligament and carrying out the dissection well up into the pelvis in an extra peritoneal fashion. All of the lymph nodes studied showed metastatic melanoma; he is convalescing from the operation very well indeed.
Died June 2, 1943, five months after operation. [1, 2]
