In United States Navy, Union army, serving under the name Joseph Dixon and/or James Dixon Wounded right arm Ships: Allegheny (1861), Powhatan, Pawnee, Princeton, Brooklyn (1862) Brother Simon in Confederate Army Court martialed for insubordination 9/11/1864. 1 year in Parish Prison, New Orleans after court martial Died of Bright's Disease Conflicting information about birth place. Death certificate says Washington, DC, but 1850 Census says he was 12 years old and was born in Germany. Younger siblings were noted to have been born in the US on this Census, so the census taker may have just mislabeled Joseph in this column.
