158 | AKA Hindel From Carol Baird: “My notes on Henriette (Hindel) Rothschild - Jakob Bachrach's first wife: Probably from Schluechtern, Hessen, Germany. She was the aunt of Jacob's second wife, Marianne who was the daughter of Hindel's brother Josel (Joseph Rothschild) & his wife Hannchen (Marianne) (Bornlaender). Jacob Bachrach was widowed from Hindel. Marriage & death records from Hessisches Hauptstaatsarchiv Langenschwarz gave lots of family information. AKA "Hindel." Marriage bonds with Jacob Bachrach found in Burghaun microfilm of Eheprotokollen #80320 - she was a widow; it says she was 36, but that would have made her born in 1795 (record VERY hard to read - bad handwriting and dark copy). Signatures of Jacob Bachrach, Hindel Speier, Joseph Speier - declaration of intention to marry dated 31 Oct. 1831. Information from the Langenschwarz Cemetery Project Team via Linda Shulein on GERSIG: pictures of tombstones of Jakob, Hindel and Malchen (Rothschild) Bachrach; got synagogue registry of scripts of the burial book: Here lies the dear and important woman a woman of valour who feared the Lord a house wife ... ...... ´ followed peace and modesty all the days of her life ....... My father then took them across the "grenitz," or border, to Germany. That's where they had to go to board a ship for America. They stole across the border. My father loaded up a wagon with hay and put them in the center of the haystack. He went across the border to sell the hay to a merchant in Germany. The soldiers examined the wagon, even stuck bayonets into the hay, but they were well concealed and got across.” | Rosen, Louis (I826)
